We are gathered here today to honor my son, Hunter -- someone who was truly special. When I think about him, the first thing that comes to mind is how completely and unapologetically himself he was. He didn't pretend, he didn't put on a show, and he didn't try to be whatever anyone expected. Hunter was Hunter, and that was more than enough.
He had a quiet, contemplative way about him. He was dependable. He worked hard. And you could trust him to do what needed to be done. Often times only wanting a piece of pumpkin pie as a reward. That reliability was one of his quiet strengths.
Hunter was also incredibly talented -- in just about every creative way imaginable. He had a way of seeing the world that was different, thoughtful, and artistic. His creativity showed up in everything he touched, and it made him shine in his own unique way.
Hunter cared deeply for his family. He didn't always say it out loud, but you could feel it in the way he showed up, the way he listened, the way he was simply present. He carried a quiet love; steady, real and sincere. You can see that love across his face in so many photos.
Hunter - I wish we had more time. I wish you had more chances to e4xplore all that talent and creativity inside you. I wish you could see the fruition of y our hard work in your band. Your skateboarding. In everything.
But I am proud of you -- deeply proud. Proud of who you were, proud of the heart you had, proud of the moments when I saw myself in you and proud of the man you were becoming.
Hunter, you will always be a part of us. We will carry your memory, your kindness and your creativity with us forever.
Goodbye for now, my son. I love you -- always have, always will.
